When you pick up one of our new QAYG Printed Batting Kits, you’re not just grabbing a product, you’re getting a little piece of our story. It’s a story that starts years ago, across the ocean, and it’s been a long time in the making.

Before GE Designs existed, Gudrun was designing patterns in Iceland, and her very first pattern was a Quilt As You Go project. She’s always been drawn to things that make the creative process easier and more fun, and QAYG fit the bill perfectly.

As a kid, Gudrun was totally into paint-by-number sets. There’s something satisfying about following a few simple steps and ending up with something beautiful, and that’s exactly what QAYG gave her when she started quilting. It was approachable, rewarding, and gave her the confidence boost we all love when we finish a project and stand back to admire it.

That love for simplicity and success still drives everything we do at GE Designs today.

We didn’t want to just create another batting kit. We wanted to make something that really stood out, something we could be proud of, and something you’d love using.

That meant taking our time. We spent two years developing these QAYG Printed Batting Kits, testing everything along the way, and saying no to anything that didn’t meet our standards. Finding the right batting partner was a journey on its own, because there’s a lot of low-quality stuff out there. But we held out until we found a partner who understood what we were going for.

The result is a kit made with 100% polyester, single-sided fusible batting. It doesn’t stretch or shift around on you, and it’s super easy to work with. The printed lines are clear and helpful, kind of like a paint-by-number layout for quilting. It makes everything feel simpler and more doable, especially if you’re new to QAYG. And as a final cherry on top, each kit is proudly printed and assembled right here in the USA.

Gudrun’s a stickler for quality and precision. If something isn’t just right, it doesn’t make it into our shop. That mindset shaped every step of this process. We tested adhesives, compared print clarity, played with different fusibles, and made sure the batting would hold up during sewing and after.

We wanted these kits to be not only helpful, but also something you’d come back to again and again. Tools that work great, feel great, and make quilting just a bit more joyful.
