The Splendid Sampler 2 - My Creative Harmony Block
Welcome to my part of the quilting world. I am thrilled to be a part of the design team for the Splendid Sampler 2 book. My block, Creative Harmony, is found on p. 38. When I designed the block and made the one photographed in their book, I was so excited to send it back to Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson that I totally forgot to photograph my block. I knew I was always going to make another one so of course I wanted to do totally different colors.
I have been sewing along with all of you since we started earlier last year and only been diving into my scrap bin for fabrics. I also decided to be very realistic and only sew the pieced blocks. I know myself! With everything I've got going on, I decided to only do the method I love...piecing. It kind of goes with the theme of my block.
When designing our block, we were asked to finish the sentence: "I'm living my best quilting life when...."
I am the happiest when things are in balance so my block represents the Yin and Yang when I feel all aspects of my life in balance. That's when I am the most creative. So I knew I would be tilting the scales if I were to pressure myself to do other techniques that I don't enjoy as much. So far, I am having a blast.
I have been creating the blocks with a secret weapon....my Stripology Mini Ruler.
It officially hit the market in October but I have been using it since summer! It is designed to work with smaller pieces and to square up any size block or block units up to 6-1/2" square. If you haven't seen it in action, here is a video showing you the basics of it.
It works really great for all those tiny, odd sized pieces we have been cutting for the SS2 blocks, even if they are 1/4" and 1/8" increments. I love it since I'm using all scraps so I can just stack my leftovers up and lay the ruler on top and slash away. Here is another video that shows you how to cut multiple units in 1/4" and 1/8" increments and below the video link is a PDF chart that you can print out and keep for a reference, helping you cut all the different sizes.
Did you know I do two live shows on Facebook? I have a Facebook group called Gudrun's Quilt Crew that I encourage you to join for lots of quilting fun, tutorials, patterns and Facebook Friday which is my live chat every week. I also do a show called Tipsy Tuesday, about 2 times a month from my GE Designs page on Facebook. Don't worry, I'm not tipsy during that show, I just focus on giving you quilting tips on each show. I do love making cocktails though;) Here is an archive for previous Tipsy shows which you can go back and watch.
Make sure to visit the Splendid Sampler page and post your block to enter the giveaway for your very own book.
